Cabbage Schnitzel Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 medium head of cabbage
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (panko or traditional)
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Oil for frying (vegetable or sunflower oil)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Cabbage:
  • Remove outer leaves and cut the cabbage into thick slices or wedges (about 1-inch thick).
  • Blanch the cabbage slices in boiling salted water for 3–5 minutes until slightly softened but still firm. Drain and pat dry.

  • In three shallow bowls:
  1. Bread the Cabbage:
  • Dip each cabbage slice in flour, coating all sides.
    • Place the flour in the first bowl.
    • Beat the eggs with a pinch of salt in the second bowl.
    • Mix breadcrumbs with garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper in the third bowl.
  • Next, dip it into the beaten eggs, allowing excess to drip off.
  • Finally, coat it in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere.
  1. Fry the Schnitzels:
  • Heat about 1/4 inch of oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  • Fry the breaded cabbage slices in batches for 3–4 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.
  • Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  1. Serve:
  • Serve hot with lemon wedges, sour cream, or a creamy dipping sauce. Pair it with mashed potatoes or a fresh salad for a complete meal.
